Prices for DDR4 have suddenly skyrocketed more than DDR5.According to Ctee, the spot price of DDR4 increased by about 172% during the quarter, while DDR5 rose by 76%.
The reason is a severe memory shortage: manufacturers are shifting capacity towards more profitable areas, and the market is buying up any available DRAM chips.
As a result, even the “old” DDR4 has become rare.
So far, the price increase has not been fully reflected in retail, but it is a matter of time.Suppliers are already pushing through short-term contracts in order to quickly pass on the increased costs to customers.
Soon, both DDR4 modules and systems based on them may become noticeably more expensive.
