According to rumors, Konami has returned to development of the original concept for Silent Hill 5, which was canceled several times over the past 20 years.
What is known about the project:
• The plot continues the story of Silent Hill 2. • The main character is an emotionally unstable man, one of the patients in the hospital where James Sunderland was treated. • The game begins in the “normal” version of Silent Hill, where residents live their usual lives. • Gradually the city begins to literally “decay”. • The main focus is on daylight horror, inspired by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. • There is also an impressive "Dark World". • The behavior of monsters changes depending on the lighting. • The combat system was supposed to play an even smaller role than in Silent Hill 4. • The plot contains scenes with psychotherapists. • The story is considered the darkest of the series and would likely require censorship to achieve an age rating. • The project was originally created for the PlayStation 3 generation. • This was the concept that was supposed to be the original Silent Hill 3. • The script was written by Takayoshi Sato, as previously reported by Akira Yamaoka. • After the not very strong sales of Silent Hill 2, Konami decided to change direction, and fans demanded a continuation of the story from the first part - as a result, Silent Hill 3 became a game about Heather. • In 2005, Team Silent returned to development, but after the studio was disbanded, the project was finally closed, and the franchise was transferred to Western developers.
While this is just a rumor, there is no official confirmation from Konami.
