Final Fantasy Resonance has sold 400,000 copies and generated $20 million in revenue, according to Alinea Analytics.
The sales were distributed as follows:
- PS5 48,8% - Steam 48,6% - Xbox 2,6%
PlayStation accounted for 55.3% of total revenue, Steam for 41.6%, and Xbox for just 3.1%.
Players are almost unanimous: 4.8/5 on PlayStation and Xbox, and 97% on Steam. Even among Chinese users, the rating reaches 95%.
The success of Resonance and last year's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 shows just how much demand for classic JRPGs is. While Square Enix has been moving the main parts of Final Fantasy towards action for years, a significant portion of fans of the genre have been left without the games they want.
Now the company has a good reason to reevaluate its strategy: to develop small HD-2D projects, to continue to produce large-scale blockbusters, and perhaps finally to bring back the full-fledged, high-budget, step-by-step Final Fantasy.
