Lucasfilm Games can commission Bungie to develop Star Wars: Battlefront III?

Lucasfilm Games is interested in the release of the Star Wars: Battlefront III shooter, according to Jeff Grabb, a journalist for Giant Bomb.

According to the insider, Disney is currently in talks to produce the game, with two candidates named DICE and Bungie, but nothing has been decided yet and the project is not even in development.

The Swedish DICE was responsible for the Battlefront reboot and managed to release two parts. Battlefront II remains the most successful game in the Star Wars universe despite the loot boxes scandal.

The only problem is that the aforementioned scandal has negatively affected the relationship between the publishing house Electronic Arts and Disney. As a result, Lucasfilm Games began licensing development to other studios.

After a series of failures, the studio was reformatted and became part of Battlefield Studios, focusing on games from the Battlefield series.

However, Grabb claims that Lucasfilm Games has a backup plan. The license to produce Battlefront III may be transferred by Bungie. The latter previously released the Renegades add-on for Destiny 2, which is a kind of crossover with Star Wars.

In the wake of recent setbacks, Sony has reduced Bungie's staff by 75% in recent years, while cancelling several projects. The studio is now focused on saving Marathon, while promising to return previously deleted content from Destiny 2.
