Microsoft has created a new division of XP, which will develop Xbox game franchises beyond the games themselves.
The division is headed by Kaelin Walters. XP will operate in four directions:
Xbox Pictures movies, series, and other screenings; Xbox Products merchandising and other products for gaming franchises; Xbox Places events, attractions, immersive entertainment, broadcasts, and thematic platforms; Xbox Partnerships collaboration with brands, authors, and communities.
Microsoft claims that games will still remain at the center of the Xbox franchise, but the company wants to turn them into major entertainment brands and reach a new audience.
Walters previously worked for Lucasfilm for 13 years, then Mojang, and during her career, sales of Minecraft grew from 350 to more than 425 million copies.
