Uh, the update to Earth has come out.
Soon everyone will be using a new map of the world, and the United Nations has decided to abandon the Mercator map in favor of the one that most accurately reflects the real size of the continents.
The initiative was launched by the coalition of African countries on the Mercator map of Africa, which is much smaller than it actually is, the only country that voted against the resolution.
The Mercator projection was created by the Flemish cartographer Gerard Mercator in 1549. The main disadvantage is that the farther the territory is from the equator, the larger its area is relative to the real world. This is why Greenland is roughly comparable to Africa on maps, although in fact the island is 14 times smaller.
