Media: Lucasfilm Games has broken off cooperation with Aspyr Media
Lucasfilm Games has broken off its partnership with Aspyr Media, a subsidiary of Embracer Group, according to Star Wars Gaming, citing sources from The Star Wars Garrison.
Aspyr Media specializes in releasing reissues and remasters of various games, including Tomb Raider and Star Wars.
However, in the last few years, the company has experienced a series of failures, many of which are directly related to the games in the Star Wars universe. The breakthrough for Aspyr Media was to be the release of a full-fledged remake of the role-playing game Knights of the Old Republic, however, the development was postponed, the project was transferred to Saber Interactive, and funding was terminated by Sony.
Last year's release of Battlefront Classic Collection was also a failure. Aspyr Media released a very mediocre reissue of the cult-like shooters' diology, failed to cope with the influx of players to the server, and was also accused of stealing user modifications.
According to insiders, it was these two failures that led to the breakup of Lucasfilm Games, which reportedly lost about $40 million.
As for Aspyr Media, the publisher has reportedly been forced to drop the development of the Jedi Knight and Galactic Battlegrounds remasters.
