In July, it went on sale as Christopher Nolan's Odyssey, and with it, the internet once again recalled the memoir Watching like Nolan intended.
Nolan is known for his love of IMAX, and Odyssey was the first full-length film ever shot entirely on a floppy IMAX camera. Ideally, you'd want to see it in IMAX 70mm: it shows a full frame with a 1.43:1 aspect ratio. In most other theatrical formats, the image is adapted to a wider screen, so part of the original frame from above and below stays outside.
And that's the joke: if Nolan is thinking so carefully about how the viewer should see his movie, you have to find the most appropriate screen for that movie.
Over the last month, there's been a lot of variations of "Oddition" but I particularly liked two that fit the theme of my channel, one for the Game Boy Advance and the other for the classic Game Boy.
And the authors didn't just do the photoshop: it looks like in both cases, the video actually ran on real consoles, and for the sake of certainty, there were cartridges made with the Odyssey. With the GBA, it's getting less and less clear that we've seen video on this system since the official Game Boy Advance Video cartridges.
I don't think there's a better way to watch a movie than what Nolan thought.
