Microsoft's software barely destroyed the first Half-Life a few months before its release.

Valve stored the project and the entire history of changes to Microsoft Visual SourceSafe, but the database suddenly decided to move to the digital skies. As a result, the developers lost the early versions of the game and almost all of the development history since 1996.

The team had to literally retrieve Half-Life from the current files that remained on the employees' computers. The source code itself managed to be saved, but most of the intermediate material disappeared forever.

Ironically, the company's first game, founded by Microsoft, almost died because of Microsoft's software. #game
