Today, October 29, marks the 24th anniversary of GTA: Vice City, one of Rockstar's most iconic games, originally released in 2002 on the PlayStation 2.
The most interesting thing is that Vice City was not originally intended to be a standalone game at all. Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermay said that the project was originally conceived as a routine addition with new missions for GTA III.
However, the success of the third part was so impressive that after about six months of development, the management decided to turn the addition into a full-fledged game.
And the time was catastrophically short, and while the programmers were working on moving GTA III to the PC, the artists and designers were already building a new city and task based on the existing engine.
