Valve has stopped production of the Index VR headset - it will be replaced by a new and more affordable Frame
With the announcement of the new Steam Frame VR headset, Valve is ceasing production of the previous model, the Index. The 2019 device, once one of the most advanced, is now considered outdated due to its wires, external tracking stations and bulky design.
Its successor, the Steam Frame, doesn't have these shortcomings: it's wireless, lightweight, and has better features, such as higher resolution screens, at a potentially lower price. The release of the new product is scheduled for early 2026, and the first impressions of journalists are positive.
