We're packing our hands to keep the world clean
Our expert survey of the trail of the single-campaign Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is the final part of the relaunched MW story, which has grown in many ways since 2019.
The events of MW4 are a long way from the end of Modern Warfare 3. The context of this story will be much clearer if you've seen the previous games in the series, and the scenario is divided into two lines: one of us as a soldier-soldier in the South Korean army, facing a sudden attack from our neighbors and trying to survive in this chaos, and the other is about John Price's journey on a path of bloody and brutal revenge against the law and morality.
Sometimes you're even surprised how Infinity Ward in general has the courage not only to show the real conflicting sides, but also to let the game play, including for the villains. The already successful mission to make noise in a North Korean village is a concentrated horror in the video game format. Strong emotional moments are enough here. Price's story shows that once a single-minded hero is ready not only for the accompanying damage, but also to ally with the most unpleasant people.
Unlike previous games, MW4 doesn't even openly contain passing missions. Each is set up beautifully and throws in different situations: from the Paris fire to the trench war and the tasks to prevent the explosion of a nuclear power plant. The scenario isn't afraid to put the player in uncomfortable conditions, including the killing of civilians, and in general, makes it clear: no characters are safe here and there is no longer any storyline armor.
On the gameplay side, it's the same set of well-rounded fire, gunfire, and, for the first time in the series, normal first-person shooters with some crazy impact from the punches.
And there are a couple of unpleasant technical points that keep the single from getting a top score with a tail. The game has a color correction problem, and no matter how hard you try, but the cat scenes will be darker than the rest of the gameplay. And even since the release of early access and so far, the game has had one unpleasant bug when restarting the mission on the PS5 it likes to give a black screen that nothing but restarting does.
Otherwise, it's a beautiful, emotional, and powerful shooter with a decent story, a drive-by shooting and a somewhat deep finale that's a true crime against shooters.
Our verdict: four feet out of four.
