According to Alinea Analytics, Gears of War: E-Day sold just 230,000 copies, but the game has already brought in about $37 million in revenue.
The main indicators are:
• 230 thousand copies sold: 168 thousand on Steam and 62 thousand on Xbox (consoles and PC).
• 1.7 million players have accessed the game through Game Pass.
• 722 thousand Game Pass subscribers have purchased the upgrade to the Premium Edition for $30, allowing them to start playing five days early.
• Revenue was $37 million: about $26 million went to Xbox and $11 million to Steam.
• With copies sold and paid improvements, nearly 950,000 people spent money on the game.
Steam users spend more time on E-Day:
• 54% of Xbox players spent no more than five hours on the game, compared to 32% on Steam. • 19% of Xbox users and 33% of Steam users played more than 15 hours. • More than 20 hours 14% on Xbox and 22% on Steam.
Analysts consider the launch to be rather weak for one of the top Xbox franchises, despite the game's high ratings.
