Former Gears of War producer Laura Fryer believes Marcus' role on E-Day has been downgraded.
She played the drums and shared her impressions:
I was working on the first two episodes and I loved the prequel, and then I started playing.
Fryer, like many fans, expected a strong revelation of Marcus and House's friendship, but in many key scenes they were just ordinary spectators, and the focus shifted to the other members of the "Brave" squad.
Laura gave an example of a locust-like scene that was supposed to blow up by Marcus, but the blanket was drawn by Mags Carter, who said the players (especially those who walk alone) had the feeling that Phoenix was the hero of the fighter (and the player himself too).
