Insider: PS6 Portable won't be a cheap alternative to PlayStation 6
The proposed PlayStation 6 Portable is unlikely to be a cheap alternative to the full-fledged PlayStation 6. According to well-known tech blogger and insider Kepler_L2, in today's market conditions Sony will not be able to ask for a portable console for $600 in total.
The main problem is the rapidly increasing cost of the LPDDR5X RAM, which is widely used in portable electronics, and the demand for it has increased significantly due to the development of the infrastructure of AI giants and the construction of new data centers.
$600 price is definitely not possible right now.
The insider also commented on the PlayStation 5 situation. According to his sources, the recent price hike in the GDDR6 is not expected to lead to a further increase in the console's price anytime soon. Sony has provided itself with enough components in advance to fulfill its sales plan for the current financial year.
However, it is not known under what conditions the company has made the agreements with the memory suppliers. Kepler_L2 believes that Sony is now selling the PS5 at its own cost or with minimal profits.
The price of RAM is fluctuating.
Microsoft has been much less fortunate in this regard. If you trust Windows Central sources, it's losing money on the Xbox Series XS even after raising the price of the current generation console's flagship model to $800.
