The gaming industry has already lost 10,977 jobs in 2026, according to ASGC Games Industry Layoffs Tracker. That's more than in all of 2025, and two months until the end of the year.
By December, the number of cuts is projected to reach 13,077. In addition, about 35 studios have closed, and 161 have been dismissed.
Among the most notable cases:
BioWare EA closed the studio and canceled the next Mass Effect, which was in the early stages of development.
Microsoft plans to cut about 3,200 jobs.
Arkane Lyon about 217 employees are at risk.
Supermassive Games has fired more than 70 people.
The restructuring could affect up to 85 employees.
For comparison, in 2024, the gaming industry lost 15,631 jobs, and in 2025, 9,197.
And the forecast is that the wave of layoffs isn't over yet.
