Yesterday, an IGN news story featured a journalist asking a simple question to Owlcat creative director Alexander Mishulin, would they agree if Hasbro called and asked to release Baldur's Gate 4?
"It's a real honour. You've already said that we're a bit of a masochist. So yes, we'll take this as a big challenge!
In my opinion, Larian has developed their own vision of what Baldurs' Gate should be like and presented it to us. Any other studio working on BG4 will create their own Baldurs' Gate setup.
It's not going to be BG3 from Larian because BG3 is a very typical Larian formula, with all their ideas about the combat system and how they combine with Dungeons & Dragons, with their idea of the cooperative mode and how it fits into the Dungeons & Dragons gameplay. So any studio that tries to repeat this is doomed to failure. So it just doesn't work.
But other studios will do something different. They'll have their own DNA, their own ideas, and they'll put them in Baldur's Gate 4, and it'll be something completely different. I hope there's a studio that's brave enough, passionate enough, and experienced enough to make a game like this".
