The Halo remake is not a bad game, but it's the worst way to meet Halo.
Let's go with the bulletins today, it's been a long time since we've had a format like this.
But first, it's a retrospective caveat. The original Halo was a time of radical innovation, which then dissolved all the shooters, not just the consoles. Glue grenades, restored health, only two trunks in hand instead of a bottomless arsenal, half-open sandbox levels, a technique that was nice to handle.
But what's not out of date is gunfire, their complexity, their tact, their clever enemies, who even in the midst of difficulty require a careful approach, you pull up your weapons, you think about the west, you think about the course of action, good tactical shooters have always been few, and now they're especially lacking.
In the remake, it's murdered. It's completely and absolutely. That's where you could end the conversation. The enemies in Campaign Evolved are stupid: you squeeze the vest and that's enough.
- The original, of course, isn't perfect. The visual styling of the first Halo is for the amateur, if not the stronger one. The levels are not all good: the open locations are cool, there's green and the view of the ring itself in the sky, impressive, but half the game you're running through the same empty corridors.
If it wasn't for the hit markers, it wouldn't be clear if you hit the opponent or the wall.
The graphics are nice in places. The scenery is nice sometimes, the music is still working. But in general, it's a typical Unreal slope: the glowing lighting that goes through some dots and noises, everything in the soap even with DLSS, even without it. It's unstable. It looks messy. On screenshots it's good, live it's bad. The remaster of the original from the Master Chief Collection is even nicer.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is not a bad game. It's a normal modern-day joke for a couple of nights. It's stupid, it's not the best, it's nothing special. It's just normal.
The big question is, who's it for? If it's for new fans, it's for old fans, it's almost like they've been hit, but don't expect newbies to want to go through the classic after the remake, and if they want to, they're gonna run it and they're not going to understand why all the noise.
