CD Projekt has explained why it dropped REDengine in favor of Unreal Engine 5.

According to co-CEO Mikhail Novakovsky, it wasn't just the Cyberpunk 2077 problems, but the studio realized that they wanted to spend more resources on creating games, stories, and working on worlds, rather than developing and supporting their own engine.

One of the key moments was the demonstration of The Matrix Awakens at UE5. Then CDPR decided that together with Epic, it would be able to refine Unreal Engine for games of the right scale.

The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 are being developed on UE5, while CDPR promises to keep its own visual style and not make games that look like a sequel to Unreal. #game
