Kojima told us how Sony canceled PHYSINT and how the studio almost closed.
In June, Sony called him on Zoom and announced that it would no longer fund the project. The reason was not explained. Kojima says he was shocked: the idea of PHYSINT was originally promoted by former PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, and Kojima was convinced that the project was agreed.
Kojima Productions works on a contract basis and can't fund itself.
For PHYSINT, they've already hired people, written the story, started making 3D models and signed actors, and Kojima didn't want to cancel all that, so he compared the situation to the cancellation of Silent Hills when he had to tell the team that the games were no longer there.
So he went to Xbox and offered to make PHYSINT not just a game, but a full-fledged IP with potential in movies, anime, TV shows and music.
Whether or not PHYSINT will be released on PlayStation is now up to the Xbox.
