At id Software, it's been pretty rough since I got fired.
Former design producer and technical artist Andrew Wills said that about 85 employees were recruited by Microsoft Teams in a closed-door call, where executive producer Marty Stratton told them about their dismissal in about 50 seconds.
The id itself is now even smaller than it was back in the days of Doom 2016. Wills claims that about two-thirds of the people who worked on that game have already left the studio, and he considers the statement about keeping the team size the same as before an attempt to smooth things down.
While Marty Stratton says the studio is not going to give up id Tech in favor of Unreal Engine, the engine will continue to develop alongside MachineGames, and the team is still full of ideas and enthusiasm for new technology.
Despite the losses, id is trying to keep the spirit and keep making technologically advanced games.
