The developers of The Wolf Among Us 2 have revealed how they plan to develop the original formula without turning the sequel into a completely different game.
The events of the sequel take place about six months after the end of the first part. According to the team, the consequences of the past story are still fresh in the characters' memories, but the developers have not yet said how the choice of the original player could affect the sequel's plot.
In this episode, Bigby investigates the case with new detective Faye. She's a normal person and doesn't know anything about the existence of fairy tales and magic. At a certain point, the player can decide whether to reveal the truth to her or keep it a secret.
One of the main changes is a fully-fledged third-person camera. Now the player controls Bigby himself and explores locations freely instead of the fixed angles of the first part.
Several old systems are also being reworked:
• Inventory will return, but object management will not become a separate mechanics it's still not a constantly sorting things RPG.
• Book of Fables will be expanded significantly. It used to be almost static codec records, but now the information will change as the game progresses and even vary depending on the player's decisions and relationships with the characters.
• At the same time, the book will become a kind of investigative journal: it will contain crime scene information and other found details that allow the attentive players to study the case more deeply and draw their own conclusions.
• More puzzles will be added to the investigation. The player will be able to spend as much time on the investigation as he wants: carefully studying each document and looking for details or moving on faster.
The Wolf Among Us 2 will remain approximately the same as the usual Telltale games, but all episodes are planned to be released simultaneously instead of being released for weeks as before.
The developers emphasize that over the past 13-14 years, the requirements for games have changed significantly, so they want to modernize management, research and other systems, but keep the feel of the original The Wolf Among Us.
The story is designed to introduce the characters and the world gradually, although those familiar with the original will notice more connections and details.
All returning characters will receive voices from former actors.
The system of choice is now preferred by developers to be called not "consequences" but "reactivity". The solutions can change not only major storyline events, but also small details: NPC replicas, Faye's attitude to Bigby and other world reactions.
And when asked if the sequel would reveal at least some of the mystery of the end of the first game, the developers replied with the old Telltale phrase: Silence is also an option .
