🤖 An interesting topic about the increasingly popular Godot game engine, on which, for example, Slay the Spire 2 was created. The developers decided to ban code written by neurons.
The fact is that Godot is an open source project, so anyone can propose changes.Lately, developers have been receiving massive amounts of low-quality AI-generated edits, making reviewing such proposals a frustrating chore.
The team explained that the main problem is not even the quality of such code, but responsibility. If a person writes the code himself, he will be able to correct errors and improve it in the future. This doesn’t work with AI: the neural network is not responsible for the result, and the authors of such edits often themselves do not understand how exactly the proposed solution works.
Therefore, Godot will update the rules for participation in development.Fully generated AI code, as well as messages written by neural networks, will be prohibited in edit discussions. The use of AI will be allowed only for simple routine tasks, and the developer will have to report this and be independently responsible for the final result.
In short, the open-source Godot game engine was taken over by vibe coders and they decided to stop it.
