Epic Games has officially unveiled the first details of Unreal Engine 6.
Main changes:
• Unreal Engine 6 will combine Unreal Engine 5 and Unreal Editor for Fortnite into a single platform.
• The new programming language Verse will become the basis of development and will eventually replace the current approach with C++ and Blueprints.
• There will be a new gaming framework Scene Graph for creating large-scale online worlds.
• Epic is working on a system to automatically distribute load across multiple servers so developers can create huge persistent worlds without complex networking code.
• Content will become portable between games and ecosystems through open standards.
• As a first example, Epic plans to make Fortnite cosmetics available for use in other games.
• The engine will have built-in support for AI tools and the MCP protocol with integrations of Claude, Gemini, Codex and other models to speed up development.
• UE6 will remain compatible with UE5 projects and offer migration tools.
THEY PROMISE TO FOCUS ON OPTIMIZATION
Early access to Unreal Engine 6 is expected at the end of 2027, with a full release 12-18 months after that.
