Thoughts from the first GTA gameplay demo
After the gameplay and the preview, I want to believe the conspiracy theory: the clips, say, Rockstar itself and the spill.
We've been discussing here recently that GTA 6 is undoubtedly a game of the decade, but it's not going to be radically surprising. Because every GTA room was a revolution, and they all had clear horizons and technical limitations that were about to go away. But the fifth part, after three generations, seems to have stuck to the technological singularity.
I'm not going to talk about the details, the setup and the unreal animation, when it seems like you're faced with a creature of flesh rather than a model, I'm not going to say much.
And what's more interesting is how you interact with this world. GTA has grown up and is trying to create a serious drama and a live world. And while it doesn't just forbid smoking and making bloody babbles, it's pushing. The world will react to your actions with police helicopters and in ten minutes it will forget.
So I love GTA, but I've never been a fan. I want the world to respond to my mischief in a way that makes it uncomfortable or sad. In role-playing games, it's a matter of narrative techniques, and in the sandbox there's just no such tool. Part of this side was Red Dead Redemption 2 but there's the Wild West and one more or less big city on the map.
And GTA 6, judging by the preview, wants to give you a chance to play meaningfully and responsibly, not to let go, but to push, a dozen tools, from hero-to-hero connections to new mechanics with the police and the NPC's influence.
The main one is the criminal profile. Basically, it's the honor system from RDR2, who moved to Wise City: the game doesn't count the bodies, but the context. He robbed a store and was shot because he didn't want to leave, one. He robbed successfully, and then he stayed standing and shooting just like that. It's not about a single flash, it's about you going out of your way.
The popularity of role-playing servers in GTA 5 has long been telling us about the demand for life in this world, not just shooting pedestrians.
