Developers will have to deceive players more often, because games marked with the use of AI sell less well.

At least, this is according to a study by analysts from Game Oracle, who studied almost 10 thousand releases on Steam in 2025.According to their data, about 18% of games contained a note about the use of AI, and such projects on average received 53% fewer reviews in the first month after release.

The authors of the study note that this may not only be due to the negative attitude of players towards AI.Perhaps the use of neural networks is often associated with a lack of budget, experience or development time. However, even after additional checks, the statistics remained roughly the same: for notable and potentially successful games, the use of AI correlates with lower sales.

The most interesting conclusion is this: for small indie projects, AI changes almost nothing, but for studios with good marketing and a strong product, it can become a factor that will scare away part of the audience.

Ironically, the share of AI games continues to grow rapidly, approaching a quarter of all new releases on Steam by the end of 2025. #game #Steam
