Cold, dead place: Media reported the harsh atmosphere at EA

Current and former employees of Electronic Arts spoke about the harsh atmosphere within the company amid layoffs, BioWare closures and the active deployment of neural networks.

One of the interviewees explained that the management is encouraging employees to do less, but better, to focus on fewer tasks and improve the quality of work.

Moral status at zero

Some executives don't quite understand how their decisions affect teams, and it's particularly painful for employees to see AI advancement and layoffs at the same time, and some people think that Electronic Arts is trying to figure out how much more they can do to cut costs while still making new games.

The formal use of neural networks has not yet been made compulsory, but Vertical Slice interviewees say managers insist on acquiring new tools.

They're not saying these tools are mandatory, but they're going to make it impossible or very difficult to do their job without them.

Individual complaints have to do with the organization of layoffs. According to current and former employees, the information about the cuts is spread so opaque that sometimes people only learn about the departure of colleagues from their LinkedIn posts.

Several fired professionals said they were informed of the company's decision at meetings on Zoom with disconnected chats and hidden participants. They could not ask questions or discuss what was happening with colleagues at the same meeting.

One of the sources added that the internal letter about the organizational changes looked like it was written by a robot.

A cold, dead place that slowly decomposes as management grabs the last money.
