Thomas Maller, creator of Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, criticized the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, calling it a missed opportunity for Nintendo.

The developer said he played the updated version with his son, who was impressed with the graphics, but Maller himself was disappointed with the game's design.

In his opinion:

Already in 1998, the field of Hairul was too empty, and the players had to run for a few minutes without any interesting events.

In the original Zelda and A Link to the Past, virtually every screen contained secrets, enemies, or the ability to interact with the environment.

The modern remake was to fill the world with new tasks, caves, secrets and mechanics that would allow you to return to old locations with new items.

Nintendo actually limited itself to graphical updates, although the technical limitations of Nintendo 64 no longer exist.

By modern standards, Ocarina of Time earns only 7.58 out of 10, as its game design is inferior to its predecessors.

Mailer emphasized that in 1998, the game was revolutionary thanks to innovations like Z-targeting, but today these mechanics have long since become the industry standard.

In his comments, Maller also responded sharply to fans who defended the void of the Hairul Field as a conscious artistic solution, saying the problem was not the lack of constant action, but that exploring the world did not bring enough pleasure.

Yeah, the game's so cute, there's a bunch of puzzles.

But more than that, I'm really bored most of the time. And in the world and in the fight and even in the mystery. I just don't find anything in the game for myself that's going to keep me interested for a long time, so I'm moving on with breaks.

And I'm sure my daughter is just excited. #game
