Digital Foundry considers the current generation of consoles to be the best in performance since the 16-bit era.

On the PS5 and Xbox Series, the 60 FPS mode has actually become the standard even for major games on Unreal Engine 5.

In previous generations, the situation was different: projects on Unreal Engine 3 almost always worked at 30 FPS or lower, and games on UE4 often offered unstable 4045 FPS.

This was achieved through compromise as an image. Developers reduce the internal resolution, use upskilling and settings that can match average, low or even lower values on PCs. For example, Alan Wake 2 on PS5 rendered at about 847p, but most of the time it runs at 60 FPS.

According to Sony, about 75 percent of PS5 owners choose the performance mode, and Digital Foundry believes the rest of the users may simply not change the standard settings.

At the same time, games continue to be more technological: Nanite, Lumen, tracing of rays, virtual shadow maps and more complex geometry are used.

According to Digital Foundry, the market has already shown that players are willing to sacrifice some of the image quality for a stable 60 FPS. #game #Match
